Customer Rating: Summary: 2X ZOOM ICON REMAINS ON SCREEN PARTIAL IN PICTURE Comment: IF YOU NEED TO USE 2X,4X ZOOM THE ZOOM icon REMAINS ON SCREEN. SONY GAVE ME TWO DIFFERENT ANSWERS. FIRST WAS THAT MY UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE AND THE ZOOM WINDOW SHOULD DISAPEAR AFTER A FEW SECONDS. I RETURNED THE ITEM TO aMAZON AND ORDERED A REPLACEMENT. SAME THING! THIS TIME SONY STATED IT WILL REMAIN ON THE SCREEN. wHAT! YOU WANT TO WATCH A MOVIE WITH A BRIGHT BLUE AND WHITE BOX IN YOUR MOVIE? I RETURNED THIS UNIT TOO. WENT TO WAL-MART, I HATE WAL-MART AND PURCHASED A pHILIPS AND IT IS FANTASTIC. I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH SONY IN THE PAST AND FOR SURE THIS IS MY LAST SONY PURCHASE.
AMAZON IS SO GREAT AND EVEN BETTER IF YOU MUST RETURN ANYTHING. LOVE AND SHOP A LOT AT AMAZON. Sony DVP-NS57P/B Progressive Scan DVD Player, Black
Customer Rating: Summary: Sony no baloney!!! Comment: Excellent DVD Player, Have finally got to watch home dvd that would not play on other machines. This was a wise choice.
Customer Rating: Summary: Didn't last Comment: Player died after only 6 months of light-to-moderate use, in a household with no kids or pets.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good DVD player - worst user manual I have ever seen Comment: I would give this unit 5 stars if the instruction manual (owner's manual) wasn't so AWFUL. It is the worst, most amateurish manual I have ever seen. If I were Sony, I would be embarrassed. A 10 year old child could do better. One example - the pictures/drawings in the manual that show what you should see onscreen when going through setup bear no resemblance to what you actually see.
Since the manual was OF NO HELP, it took a lot of trial and error to learn how to control this unit. Now that I know how, the unit runs quite well. It is just a bit slow to respond to commands when it is first turned on...but responds crisply to commands when playing a dvd (such as forward or back, play slow motion, play fast motion, zoom in and out, pause, etc.).
As mentioned by others, this player only plays region 1 dvd's but it does a very nice job with discs of varying quality.
General Information - I am using this unit with a 1999 Toshiba 27 inch TV, model CZ27V51 with ColorStream (same as component video) capability and a 4:3 ratio screen.
Notice to Sony ==> pay me 1/2 of what you paid your team of writers and I will write a manual customers will love (because it will be accurate, clear and easy to read) and that Sony will be proud of (because it will be professional).
Customer Rating: Summary: DVD Player is great! Comment: This unit does everything it states and was excellent right out of the box. Easy to use remote makes it all the better. I highly recommed.
