Customer Rating: Summary: Did what I needed Comment: Bought JVC DRMV100B in early Dec, 2008. Have copied all my home movies from VHS to DVD,20 full DVD's. It worked every time without a hitch. You have to finalize the DVD to play on other DVD players. Have recorded TV programs both DVD and VHS, and it has worked everytime. Feel free to call JVC if you don't understand anything, only complaint manual is confusing on some features, but they were glad to help. Digital tuner works well, all in all no real complaints as of yet.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very Pleased Comment: I haven't had a chance to utilize all that this machine will do, but so far it is what I expected from JVC. It has wonderful quality, and easy to use.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great machine! Comment: This machine does what it says it does -- and does it well.
People who have had trouble getting the machine to record off TV
without stopping have apparently not read the manual carefully.
If you are using DVD-RW disks, you have to record in VR mode.
If you record in the default mode, which is Video mode, then
it will probably stop at a random time and complain about
illegal copying. What a difference a mode makes -- use the VR mode.
I've filled up a DVD-RW recording in VR mode from the TV -- hours go by
-- and no trouble.
Also, you can get it to update the Menu on a DVD+R (presumably others)
by ejecting it; I recall this is sometimes necessary to get it to
be willing to offer you the Finalization choice.
Also, I spent more time trying to find/buy the right media for it than I did
buying the unit -- just go to [...] and get JVC DVD-RW media
at a reasonable price, quick service, no bother, and that will be media
you'll know will work on the machine.
Also, dubbing is as simple as pie. This is a great machine.
Customer Rating: Summary: Fair, but with some problems... Comment: I record 4-5 hours of programming per day, so I use this unit alot. First off, my original unit did not work. Amazon sent the replacement unit to me within 2 days, and seemed to work fair. The cons:
1) Copyrighted material "signal" comes through and shuts down the recording. Come on, how many Airicept and Seinfield commercials do I have to see that shuts down the recording to think something is strange? Oh well, last month it was the Viagra commercials. We'll see if the JVC Vdw47Eu5 Dvd-Rw 5-Pk (4X) with CPRM solves this problem.
2) Recording quality is okay, but there is a small loss in quality. Sometimes just a tiny bit fuzzy. The average person probably won't see this loss.
3) Naming the chapters is tedious. Not too user friendly.
4) When I try to dupe a VCR to DVD, I get a beat in the audio.
Pros:
Relatively easy to use, set up is not difficult. Recording from VHS to DVD is easy if you read the manual.
If it weren't for the Copyrighted Material "flag" that pops up and stops my recordings, I'd give this unit a much higher rating. I'd rate it around 4 1/2 stars if it just weren't for this feature. It just gets old when you want to save an NFL football game to DVD and start recording in the morning, you come home from work at 5, and find out it's only recorded 15 minutes. Other than that, it's not a bad unit.
Customer Rating: Summary: Piece of junk Comment: I brought this JVC player recorder in November. 30 days to the day after I got it, it stopped working. When we try to play dvd's or vhs tapes you can hear the sound and see the counter running but there is no picture. I went on to Amazon where I purchased the unit and was told it was 31 days since I had purchased it and therefore I would not be able to send it back. Amazon told me I had to contact the manufacturer and so I did only to find out that there is no lemon clause. Jvc told me that their warranty is only for repair and that I had to mail the unit to them. After many frustrating phone calls I did finally speak to a supervisor who insisted I send the unit to them for repair and he did send me a return label. The dvd/vcr unit was returned to me in less than a week, this time it worked for THREE (3) whole days and once again no picture. Now the 60 day repair warranty that Jvc offers has also expired so I guess I am just out $220.00. Buyers beware this JVC product is an expensive piece of junk.
